Summary- Train to Pakistan by Kushwant Singh

This story is based on the backdrop of the partition of 1947. Killing and atrocities were everywhere. The story is set in the village of Mano Majra of Punjab. There are 4 main characters. 1st is Magistrate who is corrupt but has a conscience, 2nd id sub-inspector who is a man of consequence. 3rd is Jaggut Singh who is a tiresome Gunda and people were scared to death by him and last is Iqubal who is a sophisticated and educated person in this story. The story revolves around these 4 and describes the nature of a human being.

Mano Majra a tiny place and a village located at the border of Punjab. Now there is a plan dacoity in the village in Ram Lal's house who is a money lender. It was very brutal now the police searches the suspect in Mano Majra village (always been knows for his railway station) and also in the nearby area. The atmosphere at that time was quite monotonous. There were five men involved in the dacoity. Dakoothrow the broken bangles in Jaggut Singh house as part of the conspiracy. meanwhile, magistrate arrived and hail this ma. He was like a god to them but there was no quality in him. basically, it was fear. the almighty name was Mr Hukum hand. Sub inspectors were with him who explains the condition. All sorts of luxury were available to him. Now there is the entry of an educated person Iqubal(no surname as he didn't believe in religion). He stepped done from a train, an Avery decent looking person and stayed at Gurudwara. Bhai meets Singh Ji meets him there.

With Iqbal, everyone used to ask questions on various subjects. He was arrested as one of the suspects of dacoity but soon the police realised it was a big mistake. Jaggut Singh was also arrested. They were taken to Chundunnagar. Ghost train arrived at Mano Majra. The village was in deathly silence and the day got darker. Hukum hand real character was also revealed. He was basically not so arrogant person. Meanwhile, Iqbal and Jaggut Singh were constantly interrogations. Monsoon arrived and then there was a fear of water rising. There was an arrest of another gang called Malli gang.

Jaggut Singh beat Malli furiously and everyone was terrified. Police inquires about Iqubal from Public but it was just a formality as he was already framed in the dacoity. Now everyone was quite aware that the suspects were not in the police reach. Imam Baksh is another character who lived in a village. Further, all the Muslims in the village were ordered to go to Pakistan from this village. they were first taken to refugee were in despair that once brother is now rivals. 

The river has risen to a very critical point and chances of the flood were there ghost train used to pass over the bridge and it was scary for all. corpses were coming to the banks of the river.  The village was provoked by a group of people to pay what Pakistan did and kill everyone on a train when it will reach Mano Majra. The one who provoked was a teen. There was a plan to kill at least 400 people on the train. Iqbal and Jaggut Singh were released on the order of Hukum hand. Meet Singh was very much agitated by all this but however plan dint succeed and they suffered from their own fate and the train went to Pakistan
